Want to Stop Procrastinating? Meet the Alien That Sees Everything 👽 (And How It Can Help You)
Feeling stuck and distracted? Here’s how to overcome procrastination and start living in alignment with your values.
You say you want to write that book. Start that business. Get in shape. But instead, you scroll. You binge-watch. You clean your kitchen for the third time today. Sound familiar? It happens to the best of us.
We all have those things we claim are important—our "true" priorities. But when it comes down to it, our actions sometimes tell a different story. This is where the Alien That Sees Everything comes in 👀.
The Alien Experiment That Exposes Your Truth
Imagine an alien lands on Earth, moves in with you (no permission asked), and observes you for two weeks. No context. No excuses. No comments. Just observing and gathering data.
What would the alien conclude about your values and priorities? 👽
Would it see someone who values creativity, health, and growth? Or would it report back to its alien overlords that you’re stuck in the cycle of distractions, binge-watching, and endless procrastination? 🤔
How big is the gap between what you say matters and what your actions show matters?
The alien isn’t here to judge or shame you. Its goal is to help you check in with your values and gain clarity on how well your actions align with them. 🌱
Why This Hurts (And Why You Avoid It)
We’ve all been there—saying we’re too busy or distracted while secretly avoiding the work that really matters. It's not that we don’t have time; it’s that we’re afraid. Afraid of failing, of being judged, or just of confronting that we haven’t done what we know we should. It’s okay—we all fall off track. The alien just wants to remind you to get back on it. 🛸
“I don’t have time for my passions.” (But somehow, I spent hours scrolling on TikTok.)
“I want to start my business.” (But I keep putting it off for ‘next week’.)
“I care about my health.” (But I keep skipping workouts and ordering unhealthy food.)
We often pretend we’re victims of circumstance, but the truth is, we’re just scared. Scared of failure, scared of judgment, scared of facing the truth that maybe—we’re not who we say we are.
And that’s okay. The alien just wants to remind you that balance is key—productivity, rest, and pleasure. 🧘♂️ Don’t burn out; don’t numb out. It’s about taking action toward what matters, resting when needed, and enjoying the process.
Your Challenge: Make the Alien Proud 👽
It’s time to flip the script and make progress—without judgment. By now, you’ve probably realized that the alien is you, or better said, your future self, the you in 2050. You want to make that future you proud, right?
Here’s an action plan to connect with your alien:
Step 1: Draw Your Alien ✏️
Yep, actually draw it! Get creative and design a fun alien to keep on your desk or wall. Every time you feel distracted, imagine that alien observing you. It’s not there to judge; it’s just a reminder to stay aligned with your true priorities.
Step 2: Time Audit & Align Actions with Priorities ⏰
For one week, track your time ruthlessly. Use a simple app, a spreadsheet, or even jot it down in your phone notes—whatever works for you! Write down everything you do in 30-minute blocks—even if it’s scrolling through social media. The goal here isn’t to judge what’s “good” or “bad,” “productive” or a “waste of time”—it’s simply about doing a time audit. This audit helps you consciously decide how you want to spend more or less time on certain activities.
At the end of the week, ask yourself: Am I spending enough time on the things that matter most to me? If not, What small adjustments can I make?
Remember: just like extreme diets, cutting out all “distractions” isn’t sustainable. Sometimes, we want to scroll through social media or binge-watch our favorite series, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. The problem arises when we lose control and end up “addicted” to these distractions—consuming them without gaining any real joy, while at the same time, losing precious time, energy, and presence that could be used elsewhere. It’s not about what other people or blog posts tell you is “worthy” of your time. It’s about what you value most. Be honest with yourself. Make sure you’re carving out enough time for the activities, projects, relationships, and experiences that truly matter to you.
Step 3: Take One Real Step Toward Your Goal 🧗🏽♀️
The most important step to overcoming procrastination is identifying where your priorities actually lie. Start small. Not a plan. Not a list. A real doable action toward your priorities today. It doesn’t have to be huge—just the first step. Write the first page of your book, make that call for your business, or go for a walk instead of scrolling through your phone. Just do it. Don’t overthink it. Nike’s motto is spot-on: Just do it ✔️
Finding Balance: Rest, Work, and Play 🛀
Remember, that progress is not about perfection or doing it all at once. It’s about balance. You need moments of rest, moments of productivity, and moments of joy to sustain long-term fulfillment. It’s okay to recharge when needed—rest is just as important as action.
Your alien friend is here to gently remind you: It’s okay to fall off track. What matters is that you keep getting back on. Every small step adds up, and before you know it, you’ll be closer to where you want to be.
I’ve shared enough. Now it’s your turn!
